We left the cold of DC for the warm waters of the Caribbean and more specifically the island of Grand Cayman where Dr B was scheduled to join the Merchant Vessel Coral Princess.
We had two nights on the island, and while Brenda has been there a lot, I was excited as it was a first for me.
Flying from Miami, its only about an hour flight, due south. The track took us smack bang over Cuba:
| Cuba has always been on my list of places to visit - especially now since the US consumerism will be taking over soon . . . |
On final approach for George Town International Airport. 5 x Cruise ships = about 10,000 people. Poor island . . . (or is that "rich island" rather?) |
Cocktails at the Ritz Carlton on the famous Seven Mile Beach
| Slowly sip there Boet - that is an expensive cocktail! |
| Is it just my imagination or is the sunset ALWAYS spectacular in the Caribbean? |
| Or when you are having a mojito |
| Yet another sunset - only spoiled by the ugly Carnival cruise ship in the background |
On the way to
Stingray City:
Friggen Aussies!
So far this ranks as one of the top experiences during our time away. It was completely unexpected to interact with these wonderful creatures in their natural habitat - they are present at their own will and it humbled one to be able to touch and experience them close by. If you like the ocean / diving / snorkeling, don't miss out on this if you ever get the chance!
| Stingray City itself - note all the people in the water behind the boats, interacting with the rays |
| In the tender on the way to the Coral. 50% of our travelling party's holiday will be over when we get to that piece of steel . . . |
