Road Trip, Day 2 - Tuesday 11 November: Rocks Springs, WY to Jackson Hole, WY

It was a bit chilly when we woke up in Rock Springs.

Check out the windchill . . .

After the previous day's fun and games on the icy and snowy roads, and given the current weather conditions, I consulted the Wyoming Department of Transport's website that provides the current road conditions for all of their roads. I wanted to take the shortest route to Jackson Hole, which was all the way via US Highway 191, but the WYDOT website had all sorts of warnings and advised against travelling on the first section of the road as that was considered too icy. Fortunately, US Highway 189 was still fine to travel on (the blue section below), so I decided to follow that instead, even though it was longer.

This is how we roll in the Rav:

I am using a free app on my iphone, Navfree, as GPS navigation, which is quite nifty as this does not require any data.

Bren is trying to study and uses a combination of her laptop, ipad and Samsung phone to fill her brain while I drive . . .

iPhone unceremoniously wedged on the AC buttons
Once again it was more of the same - slippery white stuff:

Will it fit?
The vis was really bad at times

Downhills I found to be more difficult to drive on than uphills. Especially when there was a corner in the mix. So I took it S-L-O-W

The mighty metropolis of Fontenelle, WY. In the middle of literally nothing.

mmmm

BIG Piney? Yeah right

Daniel is even bigger

And yet again more of the same

Jackson is getting closer

Another downhill . . . eish

At last - the sun is starting to come out as we closed in on Jackson

Ya think???
After an uneventful drive of about 340km's, we managed to get to Jackson safely, and checked into the Cowboy Village Resort, where we will spend the next three nights.

In front of our cute little love nest
